ESPNU 150 RB Byron Marshall (San Jose, Calif./Valley Christian) became the second RB USC offered last week."To be honest, I never saw it coming because they were barely recruiting me," he said. "Coach [Clay] Helton is the one recruiting me and I talked to him first and then he put coach [Lane] Kiffin on the phone and he told me they were offering a scholarship."Marshall entered the spring regarded as one of the top backs in the region, but a knee injury that required surgery kept him sidelined during the entire evaluation period and he fell a bit off the radar, although colleges were still very aware of him."USC is a school I've always liked growing up but at the same time, I feel like I need to learn more about them," said Marshall. "A lot of other schools have been recruiting me hard since my sophomore year so although I'm really excited about this offer, I'm not ready to put SC in my top five just yet. I'm very interested though and my top five is definitely not set in stone."Marshall's current top five has a definite Pac-12 feel to it with one heavyweight program from the Midwest mixed in as well."Right now I like Oregon, Cal, Washington, Arizona State and Notre Dame," Marshall said. "ASU offered me as a sophomore and my brother plays there so I know a lot about them. I've visited Cal several times since it's close to home, I love Oregon's offense, Washington has been recruiting me harder than anyone and Notre Dame is another school like USC that I have always had a high interest in."The offer from USC definitely changes things in my mind though. Like I said, I want to be loyal to the schools that have been recruiting me for a long time but USC will definitely be high on my list and moving up as I learn more about the school and get to know the coaches better."
