BYU picked up a pair of commitments on Wednesday, both from one of the top programs in the West region.Anaheim (Calif.) Servite has another strong senior class coming up, headlined by standout linebacker
Butch Pauu, who finally pulled the trigger this week and he'll be joined by his teammate Jherremya Leuta-Douyere."I actually wanted to commit to BYU at their camp last week," said Pauu, who has been considered a long-time Cougar lean. "BYU was my first offer, it's where my mom and dad wanted me to go and I have really liked them for a long time now. I had a great time at the camp last week and there's so much to like about the school."The campus and the overall scenery with the mountains right there is incredible. The coaches are awesome and those guys made me feel like part of the family and it just felt like home. My faith played a big role too. I plan to go to BYU my freshman year and then go on my mission (Mormon) after the year is out."Part of the holdup in Pauu committing was waiting to see what Leuta-Douyere would do after being offered at the Cougars camp."Jherremya has a strong faith but he's not Mormon so the family just had some questions for coach [Bronco] Mendenhall," Pauu said. "He loved it up there and once he felt good about everything, we decided to commit together. We called up Coach Mendenhall and gave him the news and he was really excited and I know I feel really at peace now to have this decision behind me."Despite his commitment, Pauu said there's a chance he could still take a couple of official visits in the fall."I really like Washington a lot," Pauu said. "That's a big offer and coach [Nick] Holt has been recruiting me for a few years now. He's a lot of fun to talk with and that whole staff has a lot of energy. I really wanted to visit them before I committed but I didn't get a chance to do that so in the fall, I might try and take a visit there and to Colorado as well. It's not sure but it's something I'm definitely interested in doing."Pauu is a big pickup for the Cougars as he has been one of the state's top linebackers since his sophomore year. He was the LB MVP at the Nike camp at USC and was recruited to play both weakside and inside linebacker by the Cougars.
