Honolulu (Hawaii) Punahou is home to not just one but two of the top players in the entire West region. Defensive ends
DeForest Buckner and
Luke Kaumatule are both close to double-digit scholarship offers and could end up playing together in college.Buckner is sitting on eight scholarships at the moment. He was the top player at the recent All-Poly Camp in Honolulu and put up a SPARQ rating over a 100 after measuring out at 6-foot-7, 240 pounds, ran a 5.09 40-yard dash, 4.37 shuttle, jumped 28 inches in the vertical and threw the power ball 38 feet. "Right now I have offers from Arizona, Cal, Colorado, Oregon, UCLA, Utah, Washington and Washington State," Buckner said. "Oregon, UCLA and Cal are my top three schools right now. I would like to take all my official visits before committing anywhere but it looks good I'll be playing in the Pac-12 somewhere."Kaumatule attended the Nike SPARQ combine in Honolulu last January and at 6-7, 242 pounds, is almost identical to Buckner in size and stature. He has offers from Arizona, BYU, Cal, Colorado, Hawaii, Oregon, Oregon State, Stanford, UCLA, Utah and Washington and has a similar top three to Buckner."I like Stanford, UCLA and Cal," Kaumatule said. "Me and DeForest are very close and have talked about playing together in college but we both plan to pick the school that is right for us and if it happens to be the same one, great, otherwise, we'll go our separate ways. I'm sure we'll take some of our official visits together and we'll talk about who we like but at the end of the day, we have to decide on our own what's best for us."Both Buckner and Kaumatule will be on the Nike campus in Oregon next week for The Opening. "I can't wait, it's such a huge honor," Kaumatule said. "I'll be competing against the top players in the nation and I'm excited to get out there and see how I'll measure up. I'm working hard and I'm ready to get after it, I can't wait."
