It's a pretty solid year for cornerbacks in the West and Raymond Ford (Gardena, Calif./Serra) is among the best in the region. He picked up offer No. 5 last weekend after a strong summer camp performance.Ford was an all-state selection as a junior and has been a varsity starter since his freshman season. He was the DB MVP runner up at the SoCal Nike camp and flashed his explosive speed this past weekend at UCLA."I had a really good camp at UCLA," Ford said. "I ran a 4.38-40 and then they made me run again and I went 4.36. I did well in the one-on-ones as well and after the camp was over, I got an offer from them."I was really excited because UCLA is one of my top schools and I was hoping to do well enough to earn an offer. Plus, that camp was the last one I was going to be doing this summer so it was good to go out with a bang."Ford also has offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado and SMU. "I like all those schools right now," Ford said. "I'm open to staying close to home or leaving, that won't be a factor for me. I know my coach will be excited about UCLA offering me because he went there and we've had a lot of players go to USC the last few years but not UCLA."My plan is to take my visits during the season before I decide," Ford said. "I don't know if I'll take all five, I must just do three or so but I'm going to talk it over with my dad and then we'll figure all that out later on."Porter likes fourLinebacker Aaron Porter (La Habra, Calif./ La Habra) was one of several standout players who attended the Cal camp last weekend. Porter said four schools currently top his list and he would like to make his decision before his senior year has started.Porter had a big junior season totaling 156 tackles, 28 for loss, with 11 sacks and two interceptions to help lead La Habra to their fourth straight CIF title."I liked it at Cal a lot, there was a lot of talent there," Porter said. "They run a 3-4 scheme and they like me as an inside linebacker and feel I would fit in very well there. The coaches were great with me and Cal is definitely a school I'm very interested in."Right now, my top schools are UCLA, Cal, Boise State and Arizona State. I'm going to visit Oregon too and I have interest in them as well. They haven't offered me yet but said they just need to see me in person and then they'll offer so we'll see how that goes. I would like to make my decision sometime in August before school starts so I don't have any distractions once our season gets here."
