Tight end
Caleb Smith (Kent, Wash./Kentridge) hit the road last weekend to Colorado and UCLA in hopes of landing scholarship offers from both schools.Mission accomplished.Smith has been on a nice run of late and now has Pac-12 offers from Colorado, UCLA, Washington, Washington State and Oregon State along with Purdue, UNLV and Idaho to name a few."It was a great trip and I liked both schools a lot," Smith said. "I went to Colorado first and I tweaked my knee a bit but still had a good time there. I got to visit with the coaching staff and tour the campus. I talked a lot with Coach [Jon] Embree, who's a former tight end himself."He was telling me how much he likes the tight end position and how he wants to feature the tight end in the offense. He said they want to sign two tight ends in this class and they're looking for guys to come in and be ready to play right away. He said he coached Marcedes Lewis and we watched some film of him. He said they want to use me in the same way so that was cool."Next up was a visit to UCLA and although he wasn't able to work out, the Bruins offered as well."UCLA has a great campus and I liked the coaches a lot, too," Smith said. "It's in Southern California so you really can't go wrong with the location. I spend a lot of time with Coach [Rick] Neuheisel and he's a great guy and I really felt comfortable there."My plan is to have a top five by the end of the summer and I think there's a good chance both Colorado and UCLA will make my list after I cut down. I want to take a few more trips and then I should be ready to narrow it down a bit."
Santini looking to make early decisionAthlete Chris Santini (San Jose, Calif./Leland) will be taking a few visits in the next few weeks and is hopeful he'll be able to make a decision sometime in August.Santini is a very talented player who made the move this past spring from safety to linebacker. At 6-1, 210 pounds, he's capable of playing either spot in college but said most of the schools recruiting him like him at linebacker.UNLV was the most recent school to offer Santini, joining previous offers from such schools as New Mexico, New Mexico State, Boise State, Oregon State and San Jose State."I went to San Jose State's camp last week and I'll be doing the USC Rising Stars camp this week," Santini said. "Right after the USC camp, I'm driving out to Oregon to visit Oregon State. I was going to visit Oregon, too, but I decided to just check out Oregon State."I went to Boise State's spring game and if I stick to my original plan, which is to commit by the end of August, I may fly out to Boise to visit the school one more time. Right now, Boise State and Oregon State are my top two schools and hopefully I'll be able to make my decision before school is here."
