Linebacker Sua Cravens (Murrieta, Calif./Vista Murrieta) is just a sophomore but already is one of the most heavily recruited players at his position in the region.Cravens recently landed scholarship offer No. 8, from North Carolina. He also is holding offers from Arizona, Boise State, Colorado, Hawaii, Oklahoma, UCLA and Washington."My top five is Oklahoma, North Carolina, Washington, UCLA and Arizona," Cravens said. "Oklahoma is my childhood favorite and I was thrilled with that offer. UNC is a big-time school and known for defense. Washington is recruiting me very hard as is Arizona, and UCLA is the local school and I've been there a ton of times."I'm actually going to UCLA's camp this weekend, although I won't be working out, just hanging out and talking with the coaches. I don't plan on taking any more visits, and I won't be doing any summer camps. It's early for me since I'm only going to be a junior next year so I'm not rushing into anything."Cravens said a couple of other schools back east could be on the verge of offering as well."Pitt and Notre Dame said they just need to see my transcripts and they will offer me," Cravens said. "So things are good right now and I'm enjoying going through the recruiting process. I didn't expect all this, all these offers, so early for me. I'm looking forward to seeing how the rest of my recruitment takes off."Powell talks first offerLinebacker Sawyer Powell (Richland, Wash.) put his name on the map with a huge showing at the Nike SPARQ Combine in Portland a week ago and picked up his first scholarship offer shortly after.Powell attended the Portland combine for the third year in a row and boosted his overall score by almost 40 points. He clocked a 4.57 40, 4.25 shuttle, threw the power ball 38 feet and jumped an amazing 43.2 inches. The vertical was the second best on the tour this year and his 1124.44 Rating was No. 7 in the nation."Right after the combine, we headed to Oregon State for their camp," said Eric Powell, Sawyer's father. "I emailed the coaches the results from the combine and when we got there, three or four of the coaches had heard about it and already knew Sawyer by name. "Sawyer worked out with Coach [Mark] Banker, who's the LB coach and the DC, and then had a chance to speak to him for about 45 minutes over dinner. We talked to Coach [Mike] Riley as well and they said they couldn't offer us at the camp (per NCAA rules), but they would be in touch. A few days later, Coach Riley called Sawyer's head coach and then talked with Sawyer and told him he had a full-ride offer."Powell, who is currently at the Boise State camp, said he was thrilled to land his first offer."It was awesome," Powell said. "Coach Banker had Facebooked me and said an offer would be coming and then when I talked to Coach Riley and he confirmed, it was just a great feeling. He asked me when I wanted to make my decision and said they were going to be recruiting me hard so that was great to hear."I do want to commit early, before my senior year, but I want to visit some other schools first. Along with Boise State, I'm going to check out BYU and Utah and hopefully they'll offer me as well. Right now, I'm open to all these schools and just want to do these visits before really narrowing my list down."
