Holy Cross coach Milan Brown returned to his Maryland roots to land his second commitment in the class of 2011 on Monday. Malcolm Miller, a six-foot-six swingman from Gaithersburg High School, came out of virtually nowhere this summer before quickly establishing himself as a priority recruit for a variety of programs from the East Coast. "Back in June I had nobody looking at me, no offers, no nothing," Miller said. But that quickly changed in the month of July. "I was able to get on Mid-Atlantic Selct and we went to Albright College and then to New Jersey, Connecticut, West Virginia, and Orlando," he said. "I thought with each place I got better and better with the competition."Our first tournament was in New Jersey and I was just getting used to the team," he said. "In Connecticut I showed a little bit more and by West Virginia I was starting to feel comfortable." It was in Connecticut that the coaching staff from Holy Cross got their first look at Miller and they came away intrigued enough to follow him for the rest of the summer. By the time Mid-Atlantic Select had finished playing in West Virginia, Miller had become a popular man with college coaches. "This process was completely new to me because in June I wasn't getting expecting anything," he said. "I leaned on [Mid-Atlantic Select head coach] James Lee for direction because I was so new to this process and just tried to get as much information as I could." Little more than a month later and Miller opted to put an end to his recruitment by committing to Holy Cross. In Miller, the Crusaders have landed a versatile perimeter player with a good combination of size and skill and a world of potential still left to discover. "I think I'm very versatile," Miller said. "I'm a tall guard, I consider myself a three guard." "I can shoot from the wing. I like to set up my teammates because it's not always about you scoring it's about you winning as a team. "I like to utilize a lot of different angles to execute against my opponent. If I have a bigger guy on me I can take my man off the dribble or go to the post if I have a size mismatch." Miller becomes the second player to commit to Holy Cross in the class of 2011, joining point guard
Justin Burrell, who originally committed to Brown last year when he was still at the helm of the Mount St. Mary's program but opted to head to prep school for a year so that he could follow him to Holy Cross next season.
