When discussing the elite point guards in the country, 6-3 Josiah Turner (Sacramento, Cailf./Sacramento) has to be near the top of the list. During the summer evaluation period he wanted to prove to coaches and scouts alike that he was more of a facilitator than scorer -- and he achieved that in spades. "Coming into the summer AAU season I wanted to prove that I was more of a true point guard than a scoring guard and I feel that I accomplished that," said Turner. As a result of his outstanding play over the summer, and the spring for that matter, his recruitment speaks for itself. With offers from Kansas, UCLA, Louisville, Oregon, Arizona, and Oklahoma, his recruitment spans the country. At this stage, he has a visit set up for Louisville on Sept. 4, but others will follow. After evaluating Turner since his freshman season, he has improved in a variety of ways. Physically, he has gotten significantly stronger and much more explosive around the rim. However, the most important strides he has made have been in the areas of game management and jump shooting the basketball. "I still need to extend the range on my shot, but it has definitely gotten more consistent," said Turner. Turner has all the physical gifts to be an elite-level college guard, if he can continue to smooth out his jump shot and show more patience on the offensive end (running a team) his future is quite bright.
