Hoop Mountain's Super Week II camp has become the exposure camp of choice in New England. Now in its 25th year under the direction of owner/founder Steve Gibbs, the camp hosted over 400 prospects this week, virtually sweeping New England's camp-going crowd, while drawing more players than ever before from surrounding areas in New York and New Jersey. Over 100 college coaches were on hand Tuesday, the opening day of the evaluation period. Here is a look at some of the happenings during the course of the day.• Georgia Tech assistant coach Peter Zaharis was in the building tailing power forward Eric Katenda (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire Academy) while also looking in on several of the talented youngsters.• Boston College assistant coach Joe Jones was following a similar schedule, checking in on B.C. commit Dennis Clifford (Bridgewater, Mass./Milton Academy), while tailing the younger talent. • Only two days after committing to UMass, Jordan Laguerre (Manchester, N.H./ New Hampton) scored at will with UMass coach Derek Kellogg and assistant Adam Ginsburg looking on. • Rhode Island coach Jim Baron was on hand throughout the entire day, but didn't appear to be following any one player in particular. • Siena coach Mitch Boneguero and assistant Craig Carter were front and center every time big man Pat Ackerman (Rutland, Mass./Worcester Academy) took to the court. • Other Division I head coaches included Drexel's Bruiser Flint, New Hampshire's Bill Herrion, and Maine's Ted Woodward. The six head coaches in the gym were joined by dozens of low to mid-major assistants. • Drawing the biggest following on Day 1 were Patrick Connaughton, Marco Banegas, Brandon Sherrod, Derrick Millinghaus, Shadell Millinghaus, Imoh Silas, Tavon Allen, Kris Dunn, Daouda Samouro, Freddie Wilson, and Zach Auguste. • Guys who helped themselves the most on Day 1 were Chris Sherwood, Phil Gaetano, Jerome Harris, Galal Cancer, Brian Patterson, Gabas Maldunas, and Graham Safford. • The No. 2-ranked player in the 2013 class Kuran Iverson led a staggering amount of young talent in the gym. Cornelius Tyson and Rene Castro stood out the most while Jake Fay, Jacquil Taylor, Jarred Reuter, Mador Gabriel, Matt Cimino, Alec Brennan and Kahlil Dukes also made names for themselves.
