Baseball players, much like old computers, outdated cell phones and dusty vacuum cleaners, are often easily discarded and replaced with newer, more efficient, models. The game, though rewarding and exhilarating all at once, can also be cruel.

Perhaps more than any other position, catchers appear to be the most disposable. A catcher's career span is usually short, and the grind of the position -- sort of like the wear and tear on a running back -- often disables then in their old age. And, because there are so few good catchers, most are considered interchangeable.
