Earlier this offseason, a contingent of Texas Rangers officials -- including GM Jon Daniels, senior director of player personnel A.J. Preller, assistant director of international scouting Mike Daly and manager Ron Washington -- convened at the team's academy in the Dominican Republic for a mini Latin American summit, something that has become an annual ritual.
"Serves a few purposes," Daniels said. "We get to see some tryout players for the coming year, we run a camp to prepare a lot of our younger players for spring training and we touch base with a number of our local big league guys."
