On Tuesday, Cuban left-handed phenom Aroldis Chapman is scheduled to throw for teams at a workout in Houston. Randy Hendricks, one of Chapman's agents, said on Wednesday in Indianapolis that the purpose of the workout was simply an opportunity for teams to get to know Chapman since there still is an air of mystery surrounding him. Hendricks said Chapman would only throw a bullpen session and would not face any live hitters.
At this point, an informal workout seems a curious decision since teams have been gathering information on a possible bid for Chapman for almost half a year. Several teams had scouts view some of Chapman's workouts while in Europe. The Boston Red Sox, according to several sources, even went so far as to make a formal offer of $15.5 million -- the only formal offer Chapman received while represented by former agent Edwin Mejia.
