In his role as specialist of international baseball operations for Major League Baseball,
Joel Araujo is often at the forefront of the Latin American amateur market's most difficult issues. While it's his colleague
Lou Melendez who serves as MLB's vice president of international operations, it's Araujo who handles most of the legalities for Latin American amateur signings. In a Q&A with La Esquina, Araujo recounts his journey to MLB, explains his role in professional baseball and offers some advice for young Latinos.
Tell us a little bit about yourself. What is your background?I was born and raised in the South Bronx, but both my parents were born in the Dominican and I spent my summers out there while growing up, so I consider myself a Dominican. I've been married to my wife Doris coming up on eight years this January. She's of Puerto Rican descent and is currently a resident pediatrician. I have a 3-year-old son, Emmanuel, and another child on the way. I am a graduate of Seton Hall Law and am 33 years old.
