The most overlooked player on one of the most well-known sports franchises in the United States often spends his time quietly sitting in front of his locker. The Boston Red Sox enter Wednesday with the best bullpen ERA (3.54) in the American League, and they owe a large part of that success to the 27-year-old Ramon Ramirez. In his first season in Boston, Ramirez is second on the team in appearances (57) and ERA (2.67). Yet he remains mostly a mystery. When asked to recount his journey to the majors, he says "It would take a long time."
The story is worth it.
