In conjunction with last week's release of the "Bones Brigade: An Autobiography" documentary feature film, Vans has unleashed an '80s inspired, limited edition Bones Brigade product capsule.
Back in the day, the Bones Brigade was the most dominant team in competitive skateboarding, as well as the most revered. The legendary team included skateboarding pioneers Steve Caballero, Tony Hawk, Tommy Guerrero, Lance Mountain and Mike McGill. It also played a pivotal role in the careers of numerous skaters, who joined the Brigade in years to come.
Stacy Peralta, the mastermind behind the Bones Brigade, was an iconic skateboarder himself and the first to be sponsored by Vans in the mid '70s. Under Peralta's direction, the Bones Brigade introduced skate fans to some of the most influential videos of all time including "The Bones Brigade Video Show," "Future Primitive" and "The Search for Animal Chin." The tricks in the videos influenced skateboarding forever, and the skaters' personal style helped define the look of their generation.
The footwear and apparel in the Vans/Bones Brigade collaboration epitomizes the retro style popularized by the team riders in the '80s. The pack includes a coach's jacket, four t-shirts in vintage color combos, a long sleeve shirt, a crew neck sweatshirt and two throwback hats that could have been pulled out of a time machine.
Coming from Vans, the originator of the skate shoe, the footwear is the heart of the pack. A black and white checkerboard skate-hi and a classic navy and light blue skate-hi complete the package. Both high tops feature Bones Brigade tonal embroidery on the heel cuff.
