Real Skateboards is releasing a REALief deck, t-shirt and hat with a portion of the proceeds going to victims of Hurricane Sandy on the East Coast.

Founded in 1990 by legendary skaters Jim Thiebaud and Tommy Guerrero, Real Skateboards is a company steeped in creativity and a DIY ethos. Their Actions REALized program addresses injustices and bring awareness to causes that are close to their hearts. Thiebaud explains, "The Actions REALized program has always been an extension of the simple philosophy that skateboarding can be a positive force for change." This week the San Francisco, Calif., skateboard company sets its sights on residents of the Tri-State Area.

Hurricane Sandy is responsible for more than 110 deaths, has decimated entire neighborhoods and has permanently changed the Mid Atlantic coastline. Adding insult to injury, as cities attempt to repair failed power grids and provide housing for tens of thousands of people made homeless by Sandy, the East Coast is contending with a nor'easter storm.

"As skateboarders we always look out for our own and cross all boarders to help those in need." Thiebaud continued, "Watching the recent Hurricane Sandy disaster unfold was truly devastating. We had to do something to help, so we created this product capsule to help all those affected."

Real is expanding their fundraising and those who can participate, "This year we're beginning to adjust the Actions REALized offerings to include more products than just decks," said Thiebaud, "so we can raise even more money for the beneficiaries and not have the only way that people can be a part of it is through buying a deck."

The Real Skateboards REALief product capsule will be shipping out in 10 days and be available at skateshops and online. A portion of the proceeds raised from sales of these products will go to the Red Cross to aid their relief efforts on the East Coast. For more information go to www.dlxsf.com.
