In 1985, Powell/Peralta's "Future Primitive" was the be-all to end-all of skate videos. My friends and I watched it over and over trying to decipher how every trick was done, where every spot and ramp was, who was in the background and who each skater was. Tony Hawk, Lance Mountain, Steve Caballero -- those were the easy ones to recognize. But who was the photographer in the pool with the sunglasses? Who was the skater with the wig that made the funny face at Mountain's ramp? And who was the guy that did a kickturn in the pool bow legged? He had cool black hair and stalled a fastplant in the ditch? Well that was Jeff Grosso. A year later he was riding for Santa Cruz, had shaved eyebrows and was our favorite skater. Grosso has come a long way since those days and is now one of skateboarding's elder statesman. He'll hate me saying that, thinking that it makes him seem old, but Grosso still rips on and off the board. ESPN.com got a chance to sit down with Grosso, while he was taking a break from filming season 3 of his "Love Letters" webisode on Offthewall.tv, and got the skinny on him turning pro in 1986 and whether or not his son Oliver will become a skateboarder.
