Tuesday started off unlike most Tuesdays here in the desert -- windy, and with a legit rainstorm. By showtime, the temperatures had dropped into the 50s, providing an unusual backdrop and a welcome change from highs in the 120s on past Bikes Over Baghdad trips to this part of the world.
This morning after finishing the course setup, the guys headed to the flight line and toured a C-130 military transport aircraft. Brian Kachinsky and Mykel Larrin brought their bikes to the airfield and threw a few tricks out of the back of the plane for the crewmen who would be working during tonight's 7 p.m. show. Then the base's Wing Commander, Colonel Shawn Farrow, and Command Chief, Master Sergeant, Dennis Daubert, welcomed the riders to the base.
"When I got to this base, I wondered, 'What will resonate with the 18, 19, 20-year-olds on base," Farrow said. "We've had American Idol singers, cover bands, authors. But we wanted a show that would really connect with the gen-Xers. If you guys aren't it, I don't know what is."
A few hours later, Colonel Farrow introduced the tour's final show, saying to a crowd of around 400 soldiers (nearly a quarter of the base), "These guys could fill any stadium in the States, but instead, they've chosen to be here and entertain us tonight. And for as long as they're willing to come back to our base, we'll keep asking them to return."
All of the riders and crew are documenting their trip via Instagram and Twitter.
