Several years ago, Steve Debusk lived in Rochester, N.Y., and was getting support from United Bike Co., Profile, Etnies and Coalition. Debusk was featured in magazines such as Dig and Ride BMX, and had an amazing bio in a 2010 issue of Props Video Magazine. His brand of street riding was powerful, and he possessed a huge bunnyhop. With the right support, he was on his way to becoming one of the most well known and innovative riders on the scene.
And then, almost suddenly, Steve Debusk disappeared. He didn't stop riding, but he stopped traveling for BMX, moved to Columbus, Ohio and started attending community college. According to Debusk, "Secondary education wasn't right for me after high school, so I pursued my dream of becoming a professional cyclist and was able to actually do that for about five years."
"But as time wore on, I realized that my days were numbered," he continued.
Debusk, 26, is now a senior at Capital University, and a staunch supporter of President Barack Obama. Last Tuesday, Debusk introduced the President to a crowd of supporters in Columbus, Ohio, and was even offered some one-on-one time with the President, who professed a knowledge for the different disciplines within BMX.
According to a report in the New York Times, the president asked Debusk if he raced BMX. Steve replied that his pursuits in BMX were more aimed towards street riding, to which Obama replied, "Yeah, you ride freestyle."
Debusk graduates in 2013 and intends on becoming a teacher. In the above video, he discusses his BMX pursuits as well as his reasons for supporting President Obama.
