• German flatlander documents vacuuming

In just under two weeks, a new trend has emerged in BMX web videos: vacuuming. The trend began at the beginning of last week with a video that documented Fit Bike Co. pro Tom Dugan's obsession with vacuuming while in recovery from a traumatic brain injury. It was funny and irreverent and entertaining.

This week's contender takes the subculture of vacuuming to the next level. Flatlander Chris Böhm attempts to ride his indoor flatland spot. He enters the indoor flatland area, removes his wrist watch, replaces the first wrist watch with another wrist watch, and then attempts to document his brand of flatland riding for the camera.

Unfortunately, his flatland area is slippery, and the results of his riding are not as promising as one would expect in a web video. He slips out of a plastic man glide, his turbined halfpackers don't happen, and his time machines lead to catastrophe.

Böhm becomes frustrated, and examines the area where he is attempting said tricks, which is dirty and dusty. His solution: vacuuming. He purchases a brand new Dyson vacuum and rolls along with it as he vacuums the area. Then, instead of going back and actually pulling the tricks he was attempting, Böhm ends the video, presumably to create an intriguing conclusion to his vacuuming.

As someone that has cleaned floors in both restaurants and homes for over two decades, I'm prone to think that a mop would work vastly better in this situation. Maybe the rider is attempting to get sponsored by Dyson? But perhaps, more importantly, who will be the next to advance the newfound sport of BMX vacuuming?
