Congrats to the Baltimore Ravens and winning Super Bowl XLVII. Now that football is over we can dream of warmer days and the start of baseball season. With that in mind, we spent this past week preparing for the upcoming start of spring training. I'm going into spring training like I did last year, trying to make the opening day roster. That's my mindset. Everyone wants to break camp with the team.

John, how hard has it been to balance both the building up of the farm system and getting younger players time in the bigs, while also building a contender with veteran players at the major leage level?

It's an interesting question is trying to maintain success at the major league level by giving young players an opportunity. For us, to maintain that balance, we've been fortunate to retain the right free agents, going out and making trades and using our minor league system in a multitude of ways, getting that high end player as well as the filler.

Yep. Long for a starter, but he's one of the few I'd bet on long-term. That said, are the Mariners better off with him, or dealing him for prospects? Can they build a successful team around him with what's already in the system?
