- Rank 'Em: Where does Nomar Garciaparra rank amongst greatest Red Sox of all time?
- Chat: ESPN Boston's Gordon Edes, 4 ET | More: Edes on Garciaparra's career
We don't want to speak ill of a new colleague, but come on, we couldn't get the greater half of the Garciaparra-Hamm household?
All right, maybe that's not fair to the newest member of the ESPN baseball family. After all, in signing a one-day contract with the Red Sox in order to retire with his original team, Nomar Garciaparra brought to a close a tremendously successful career in which he hit .313 with 229 home runs and 1,747 hits. For about six or seven years, until slowed by injuries, Garciaparra was on even footing with Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter in the debate about the best shortstop in the game.
No wonder he's SportsNation's pick as the best middle infielder in Red Sox history. But one debate Garciaparra appears destined to lose is the one about the most successful career in his household.
