LONDON Toyota plans to start testing its
new Formula One car after next month's launch, the company's
motorsport president Ove Andersson said Monday.
"After we launch the test car on March 23, testing will
begin," said Andersson, in charge of Toyota's world championship
entry next year.
"Later in the year we will also start to gather data around
most of the European circuits."
Toyota Motorsport, whose grand prix operation is based near
Cologne, Germany, also announced an agreement with Exxon Mobil
for a technical partnership in the Formula One campaign.
Italian Gianfranco Frantozzi, who has worked for Ferrari and
Minardi, was announced as Toyota's new team coordinator.
Mika Salo of Finland and Briton Allan McNish will be
Toyota's test drivers.
