Ferrari set on another championship Reuters | |||
MARANELLO, Italy -- Ferrari unveiled its
new F2001 Formula One car with a simple aim on Monday -- to be
world champions for a third season in succession.
Michael Schumacher won the driver's championship last
season, the Italian team's first in 21 years, and Ferrari made
it a double success by defending the constructor's title they
took from McLaren in 1999.
"Last year some people complained that I talked of another
year of transition and wanted to know why I didn't say simply
that we want to win the world championship," said company
president Luca di Montezemolo.
"So let me make it absolutely clear -- we want to win the
world championship, full stop end of story."
The new car, unveiled in front of cheering fans at the
Fiorano test track, has been adjusted in accordance with new
regulations due to come into effect on aerodynamics, traction
control and electronics.
Schumacher said that despite last year's win he was just as
motivated for futher success.
"I am a natural. I want to be at the limit and there is
still a lot of joy for me in driving," said the German.
"I can't say I am more motivated because that is impossible
but the weight is off our shoulders and the motivation now is to
constantly improve."
