Jacque asked about safety conditions

LONDON -- French 500cc grand prix rider Olivier Jacque broke his right arm in testing at the Sepang circuit in Malaysia on Tuesday.

Grand prix organizers Dorna said that Jacque, the 250cc world champion who is moving to the top category on a Yamaha, crashed on his fourth lap when he mistakenly dropped down to first gear instead of second.

"His team learned of the crash after being informed by test rider Toshihiki Honma who saw the French ace lying in the gravel," a statement said.

"Jacque was taken to hospital by ambulance, with paramedics securing his right arm tightly over his chest and taking care not to damage his neck as he complained about pain in his back.

"A hospital examination has revealed a clean break so no operation is required for the moment."

Jacque, who was kept in hospital as a safety measure, has now crashed twice in three days and Dorna said questions had been asked about safety measures at the circuit being used by Yamaha riders.

All the riders were forced to stop after Jacques' latest crash 10 minutes into the session as the sole ambulance on duty at the circuit was being used to transport the Frenchman to hospital.

The ambulance returned more than an hour later and practice then resumed until late in the evening.
